    1. Hi Sir/ Mam
Thank you for your taking interest in cataract patients and cataract operations. In 1968, while moving around in different villages, treating poor villagers, I found a young man was beating his parents only because parents were blind for the last 10 years due to cataract in both the eyes. WHen I asked the man “why you are beating parents?”. He said “both my mother and father are blind for last 10 years due to cataract in their eyes” and both my father and mother are harassing me as they wanted help for passing urine/ toilet or for food or drinks. As such both myself and my wife are engaged with my parents and we are unable to go for work and thats why we thought of killing them by beating.” I took out the stick from the young man and told him today I am taking your parents with me and they will stay in my outhouse and I will take care of them. I started looking for a surgeaon who could operate them and I found one cataract surgeon 200 kms away from my village in Patna. I managed to bring that surgeon in my village. GOt the old couple operated. After leading 12 years of difficult life of a blind person, post operation they were very happy. This is how free cataract operation of poor villagers and tribals started.

  1. Dear Sir,
I am registered medical practitioner 97 years old practicing medicine for the last 72 years in a small village of Bihar, India among the poor villagers and tribals. When I saw poor people suffering from cataract for many years I started free camp for cataract operation. In 1968, after few years I built a small eye hospital with a modern operation theater and here every year some hundred poor cataract patients are operated free. For some years in the past I used to get financial assistance from Sighsavers, Bombay. Later on, District Blindness Control Program, Bhagalpur is giving me financial assistance for conducting free eye-camp.
I am not very happy with the working of District Blindness Control Program. if you can suggest any other financial assistance. I shall feel happy to take it.
