In 1946 Dr. Dilip Kumar singh went to Mahatma Gandhi’s Wardha Ashram, there in Sewagram Gandhi Ji was taking care of a Leprosy patient. He was Cleaning ‘Pus’ from Leper’s wound while Dr. Dilip was watching this act of Bapu. Bapu asked Dr. Dilip who are you? Dr. Dilip said “I’M a medical student from Bihar”, then Bapu reacted and said ‘ Oh! you are a budding Doctor. there are lot of lepers in Bihar leading a filthy life begging for some food in front of a Mosque, a Temple or on Railway platform- Do take care of them when you become a Doctor. You Locate them, treat them and rehabilitate them in their previous job ‘. With folded hands Dr. Singh replied, ” Bapu, I will Do it”.
And from 1953 to 1963 Dr. Singh collected 381 lepers from different parts of Bihar, treated them and rehabilitated them. He wrote a Book on this with the title ” Laut aaya hoon Jahannum se Doston “. These words were told by Dr. Dilip’s first leprosy patient Sheikh Chedi when he visited his village home when he was fully cure. The villagers were astonished to see Chedi fully cure, Sheikh Chedi replied ” Mil gaya tha ek rahnuma,jisne mujhe thik kar diya”.
